Description: the leading model of workplace mental health is one where organizations use research-informed activities to create environments where people thrive, protect mental health, and support people affected by poor mental health. In this session we will talk in very practical terms of applying the WHO Workplace Mental Health recommendations in the Canadian context including how it relates to psychological health and safety and disability management programs. Learning objectives:
- Participants will receive an overview of the leading workplace mental health thought leadership from a research and international policy perspective to speak knowledgeably to their peers and organizations.
- Participants will be able to informally assess the maturity of their organization compared to leading practices.
- Participants will identify their next step in workplace mental health.
Participants who are interested in more self-study will receive a curated reading list of publications reflecting international thought leadership in the area
About the presenter: Ian believes healthy work improves peoples’ health. He has his Masters in Workplace Health & Well-being, is a member of the Technical Committee for the National Standard of Canada for Psychological Health and Safety in the Workplace, and currently works in a large organization coordinating their employee well-being and psychological health and safety strategies. He is also an Occupational Therapist and practiced for 20 years in workplace rehabilitation. Outside of work, he volunteers on several boards and can be found experimenting with bread recipes in the kitchen or paddle boarding on Last Mountain Lake.
